Happy Easter, March 31, 2013

Hello friends, Happy Easter and may your day be a glorious one! My characters, Pete and Carol Ann, would like to share some Easter fun with you. They hope you will:
1) Dye lots of hard-boiled eggs.
2) Have an exciting Easter egg hunt.
3) Read the Easter Story in Mathew 26-28 from the Bible.
4) Eat Easter basket treats: Peeps, Chocolate Bunnies, and Jelly Beans.
5) Have an Easter Bash with family and friends.
6) Smell and enjoy the lovely spring flowers.
7) Make Pete’s favorite Crescent Cookies.
1/2 cup soft butter. 1/2 cup shortening mixed together. Add: 1/2 cup powdered sugar, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 2 teaspoons vanilla, 2 cups flour, and 2 cups finely ground pecans. Mix real good, form into crescents or balls, and place on a cookie sheet at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Remove from cookie sheet and dip in powdered sugar. Pete loves these cookies and so will you. Pete and Carol Ann wish you, ” An Easter Sunday full of blessings. Like wow! Have a blast!” You can read all about their Easter adventures in my book, Scary Spring: Our Polio Fright of 1955.

March 17, 2013—-Happy St. Patrick’s Day

Hello Friends and may you receive an Irish Blessing today on St. Paddy’s Day to last you all year long. I love that I’m “Scotch-Irish” along with Latvian(Russian) and English. In fact, my relative from England, Ann, just found me and my long-lost American family. Ann and I share the same name from my great grandmother, Ann Hartnell, who was her great grandmother’s sister. Ann left England in 1883 for America. An ocean, a continent, and 130 years have separated the Hartnell families but we are reunited at last! Talk about a blast to the past. What a blessing!
